Abani Neferkara

Undergraduate: Brown University
Planned Major: Molecular Biology, Cell Biology
Recommended Book: "The Bluest Eye" - Toni Morrison

The first novel published by Toni Morrison, which tells the story of a young African-American Girl named Pecola who grows up during the years following the great depression.

Abani will be attending Brown University in the Fall of 2020. He plans to earn a dual degree in Molecular and Cell Biology.

Abani had two people at Lincoln that had a positive impact on his experience. Two Lincoln staff members had a positive impact on Abani during his time as a student. The first was IB coordinator Kim Bliss, who helped Abani to manage the many requirements of Lincoln's IB Program. The second was former Lincoln Vice President, James McGee, who founded the Brothers of Color Club at Lincoln and looked out for Abani during his time at Lincoln.

The Brothers of Color Club at Lincoln was Abani’s most enjoyed extra-curricular. Abani described his time as a member of this affinity club for male students of color established in 2015 as "a great community to be involved in as a person of color."

So far in his life, Abani considers his summer internship working in the Nakai Genetics Lab at OHSU one of his best accomplishments. Working in the genetics field alongside those at OHSU as a high school student is quite the accomplishment!

Good luck at Brown University, Abani, we're looking forward to seeing the great things you'll accomplish!
